BOOK 2: THE SUNKEN
Chapter 12:
Mixtape: Your Name
This is the day. It’s going to be a clear day today. I’ve planned it all. The journey should last around a month or so. I thought to myself, am I really the first-ever man who will leave this place? or maybe someone already did it but it was so long ago that there are no records or anything at all? ah, I will never know. to be honest I don’t really care. Maybe I’m the first man in my village who came back after experiencing the so-called ‘The Farthest Sunken Sky’. I’m going to leave this place after the sun is high enough to be seen from the horizon. but before this, there is one thing that I want to do.
I’m currently sitting on a public stair. I don’t know why when I do warm-ups by running, I ended up here. It is like faith brought me here. somehow this place seems familiar. seems like there is a hint of nostalgia here, but at the same time, I’m quite certain that I never went here. It's like both deja vu and jamais vu collide together. I’ve been dwelling on that emotion since I sat here. It's weird but I feel comfort in this feeling so I decided to sit and rest here.
“Excuse me, have we met somewhere?”, a familiar voice can be heard from the top of the stair. a familiar, warming, and soothing voice. I turn my head to see who called me. my eyes widened. It’s like I couldn't believe what I've seen. because no one is there. “what? I must have been hallucinating.”, I thought to myself. but the voice. It sounded so familiar. like I could feel the reminiscence through the voice. but I just couldn’t remember who it was. It’s like someone who is actually dear to me. but, who is it? It may sound crazy but It’s like someone I knew from before even I was born. Is it my past life? ah, I don’t know.
Suddenly I remembered what I was going to do. I want to make sure of something. I ran for some time and stopped at a corner of a block. In a quite far distance, I could see it, Kina. She doesn’t seem to notice me since it was quite crowded here since this is the road where many workers would have to pass to get to their offices. I know it sounds like I stalked her, which is sound about right. but I just want to confirm something. but it was hard since I couldn’t focus because I thought to myself. ‘So there are actually people as pretty as this’. ‘i love her, I’ll wait for her’. and there it is. the thing that I want to confirm myself. she still puts on the ring. haha, I'm so happy I could shed a tear. before she almost notices me, I already start pacing somewhere else.
“see you later, Kinasle Sirenetaki!”,
I’m currently hiking up the mountain with two peaks. I should reach the top before noon. From there, I’ll start to fly to the nearest floating island. it should be easy from there. Well, I don’t know since I’m going alone on this journey. a couple of hours have passed. I finally reached the peaks. I could see everything from here, the city that I'm about to leave behind. After a single deep breath, I pound the land with my feet and fly high.
goodbye, The Farthest Sunken Sky
